Today I just about broke my brain trying to make this painting work. I finally got it looking good, only to discover that this particular color of blue will not show up when I scan it. (It barely shows up on this photo.)
This is the picture I posted on Instagram, which is why the caption is so big. I think it's funny, so I'm leaving it there.
When I have a bad painting day like this, I give myself permission to experiment with other themes and techniques, just to let off steam. Today I finished a watercolor collage. I painted patterns onto individual sheets of paper, then cut them out freehand into letters and pasted them onto a painted background.
I'm calling this a "unique painting" because it doesn't fit into any series I'm planning. It's just for fun.
My late friend Jacques gave me this advice: "Don't talk about your magic." He was a bit of a magician himself, so he knew what he was talking about.
This advice is one of the driving forces in my life.
When you want to pull off something amazing, keep it secret for as long as possible. Wait until it's ready, and then shout it from the rooftops. Talking about magic diminishes it. Secret plans are engines that drive our actions forward.
